Field observations that include i) short-term (7-10 days) detailed, multidisciplinary beach experiments; and ii) long-term deployment/monitoring of the wave and meteorological regime of the 2 experimental beaches. High-resolution nearshore bathymetric/topographic information will be collected (at both sites) using dense grids of nearshore cross- and long-shore transects. High frequency nearshore hydrodynamic information will be collected (synchronised with the AOMS) using autonomous sensors (e.g. pressure sensors-RBRs, and Acoustic Doppler Velocimeters-ADVs) deployed within the AOMS observation windows. Meteorological stations will be deployed at the 2 beaches for (at least) the duration of the proposed project. Atmospheric pressure, temperature and wind velocity/direction records will be extracted and used to identify the magnitude/number of storm events that will affect the experimental beaches. In addition, sediment samples and photographic material of specific morphological beach features (i.e. submerged beachrocks, sand ripples) will also be collected.
